Xiphera Launches xQlave™ Product Family of Quantum-Secure Cryptographic IP Cores

Espoo, Finland – December 1, 2022 – Xiphera, Ltd, a Finnish company that designs and implements hardware-based security solutions using proven and standardized cryptographic algorithms, today launched the new xQlave™ family of Post-Quantum Cryptographic (PQC) IP cores.

The new xQlave™ family offers a comprehensive collection of quantum secure key exchanges and digital signatures implemented as Intellectual Property (IP) cores for Field Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs) and Application Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs) hardware. This family introduces an IP core for the PQC algorithm recently announced as a winner of the PQC competition by the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The xQlave™ product family enables Xiphera’s partners and customers to design future-proof systems that are also protected against the threat of quantum computers.

The rapid development of quantum computers is creating new opportunities as well as threats to current ecosystems. This is revolutionizing the way we view security and computing holistically. A sufficiently powerful quantum computer could break current public-key (asymmetric) cryptosystems based on integer factorization and discrete algebra, compromising the entire foundation of information and network security. Concerns have been raised about malicious actors today already being able to target and capture sensitive data for the purpose of cracking cryptography when sufficient quantum computing power is available. This has led national security agencies (such as the US NSA and French ANSSI) to recommend systems designed and deployed today to have the ability to upgrade to quantum security cryptography.

PQC is implemented and runs on existing computing platforms to protect against attacks that leverage quantum computing. “NIST announced the winners of the PQC competition last summer, and these winners’ algorithms will be used on a large scale in the near future,” he says. Xiphera’s new xQlave™ family consists of a safe and efficient implementation of the PQC algorithm. The first product in the family is for the CRYSTALS-Kyber key encapsulation algorithm, one of the four winners of the NIST PQC competition. IP cores will be available for customer evaluation in January 2023.

The xQlave™ family will grow in 2023 with a new IP core for CRYSTALS-Kyber and the second NIST winner algorithm, CRYSTALS-Dilithium digital signature algorithm. The xQlave™ family meets a variety of customer needs with IP cores optimized for a very small resource footprint, maximum performance and an optimal balance between them.
