Not only was cutting the stems considered frowned upon, shoppers considered the act “theft”.

“I don’t pay for these (stems), so I just pull them out and throw them away,” said the 41-year-old.

In a follow-up video, Mia showed how to get off the shanks when she does her grocery shopping.

“So when I’m in the store,” she said, “(if) the stems are really long, I cut them off.”

Most of the time, she said, she cuts the stems with a pocket knife that she carries on her.

“I just leave the shanks at the store,” she said, “I don’t need them, you can have them.”

Her video has had over 6.4 million views – thousands divided on how her money strategy works.

Someone said “genius”.

“I’ve been doing this for years.”

Another applauded her, saying, “100 percent you go girl, don’t waste the money, times are tough as they are.”

Someone asked, “Wait, is that allowed? I’m totally with you.”

Another added, “I’m doing it from now on.”

One admitted, “Ha…has been doing this for years.”

While another said: “Every bit of saving helps. It all adds up. Good for you to shop wisely.”

She’s not the only one dumping excess products in stores.

“I’m one of those people who take some grapes out of my bag and add them to another—they’ll spoil in my house but someone else will eat them.”

“cheap” law

Many mocked the woman for her “reckless” act – while others made jokes about how they “save money” on their grocery bills.

Someone joked, “This is why I core the apples before I go out.”

Another said: “That’s exactly why the fruit is peeled in the aisles. You won’t catch me paying for a banana peel.”

One wrote, “I’m taking raw chicken out of plastic because I don’t want to pay for plastic.”

One jokingly added, “I take everything out of its original packaging and put it all in my mouth on my way out for exactly the same reason.”

Another said, “That’s why I always peel potatoes at the grocery store.”

While someone joked: “I pull the bones out of the chicken wings, and then I only pay for the meat.”

“legs are great”

Meanwhile, many shoppers urged that you reconsider eating broccoli stems.

“The shanks are great fried in sesame oil,” someone said.

Another suggested: “You don’t eat the stem? You’re seriously missing out. Just use a vegetable peeler, cut it into cubes, and cook it with the rest. It has a lovely sweetness.”

While one added: “Funny thing, the shank is actually healthier than the top. I peel it off and cook it with the rest…it’s kind of artichoke with butter.”
