CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Sept. 23, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — E-scooter riders can now locate Superpedestrian’s bright yellow shared scooters on the Google Maps mobile app, making it easier for riders to plan trips , including their first and last mile to public transit. The integration of Superdestrian’s real-time locations into Google Maps is a crucial step towards making e-scooters a reliable and user-friendly means of transport for everyday use. The app allows riders to plan their multimodal journey along with real-time transit and ride-sharing information.

“People use our scooters for all types of travel, often in conjunction with public transport, walking and ridesharing,” he said Jamie Perkins, communications director at Superpedestrian. “It’s important to us that our drivers are supported with the best tools to plan their trip and integration with Google Maps is an obvious necessity to ensure drivers can create plans and change their plans as they please. ”

The Superpedestrian integration is currently active in cities in the United States, Italy, Spain, Austria and Portugal. This is just the latest integration for Superpedestrian, which is also discoverable in apps including Moovit, Transit, Citymapper, Wegfinder, Velocia, and Urbi.

How it works

Riders can find Superpedestrian scooters in the bike section of Google Maps when planning their trip. In addition to the real-time location, Google Maps also shows the scooter’s battery range, estimated cost and travel time. When users select the scooter option, they will be directed to the Superpedestrian app to unlock the scooter.

To drive a Superpedestrian scooter, simply download the Superpedestrian Mobile App from the iOS or Android app store. Once you’ve found a Superpedestrian scooter, make sure the Gas LED is GREEN, which means the scooter is available for rent. Then scan the scooter’s QR code (on top of the handlebars) via the Superpedestrian app to unlock it. Wait up to 10 seconds for the Gas LED to turn WHITE, indicating the scooter is unlocked and ready to ride.
