Microsoft has not disclosed how much it has invested in OpenAI. A report in Bloomberg says that Microsoft is investing $10 billion over “multiple years.”

“We built our partnership with OpenAI on a shared ambition to advance AI research and democratize AI as a new technology foundation,” said the Microsoft CEO. Satya Nadella in a blog post. “In this next phase of our partnership, developers and organizations across industries will have access to the best AI infrastructure, models, and toolchain with Azure to build and manage their request,” he added.
The deal will see Microsoft increase its investment in developing and deploying critical software to support OpenAI research. A key part of the effort is that Microsoft is the exclusive cloud partner for OpenAI, and the company’s cloud services will power all OpenAI efforts across products, API services, and research.

Microsoft also plans to offer OpenAI prototypes to various consumer and enterprise products. The company is reportedly preparing to challenge Google with the inclusion of ChatGPT in Bing search results. There are also reports that the company is looking to incorporate some voice AI technology into its Word, PowerPoint and Outlook applications. Some reports suggest that Microsoft may receive 75 percent of OpenAI’s profits until it confirms its investment return and 49 percent of the funding to the company.
