Micron President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra named 2022 IPO Education Foundation Executive of the Year


WASHINGTON, September 20, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Board of Directors of the IPO Education Foundation (IPOEF) has appointed Micron as President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra as Executive of the Year 2022. The IPOEF Executive of the Year is awarded annually to an executive with a strong commitment to the creation, protection and advancement of intellectual property (IP). With more than 40 years of experience in the semiconductor industry, Mehrotra has acquired over 70 patents, including patents fundamental to flash memory in modern computers.

As a co-founder of SanDisk, Mehrotra led engineering teams that helped develop and commercialize flash memory. He led the company from 2011 to 2016 before joining Micron in 2017. Under Mehrotra’s leadership, Micron is developing advanced storage technologies and solutions designed to capitalize on significant opportunities driven by technology trends in artificial intelligence and 5G networks. Mehrotra is championing intellectual property to build on these technologies and positioning Micron to lead a revitalization of US semiconductor manufacturing that will improve supply chains and strengthen national security. The company is a prolific patent applicant and celebrated its 50,000th anniversaryth patent earlier this year. Additionally, under his leadership, Mehrotra has focused on diversity, equality and inclusion, which has resulted in a four-fold increase in the annual number of female inventors in Micron’s patent applications over the past four years.

Mehrotra will receive the honor at the IPOEF Awards 2022 in Washington, D.Con December 7that the National Building Museum among members of the Intellectual Property Owners Association (IPO), the parent company of IPOEF, and other 2022 IPOEF honorees. Tickets are available through IPOEF.org.
