Latest Artificial Intelligence Research Proposes ROME (Rank-One Model Editing): A Large Language Model Solution for Efficiently Locating and Editing Factual Associations in GPT Models

Where is the truth stored in the big language model or LLM?

For two reasons, we want to know how and where the model maintains its true relationship.

To clarify the specific modulus in the transformer that facilitates the memory of facts about a subject, the researchers in this article first examine the effects of latent states. They found that when processing the final symbol of the subject name, feedforward MLP placed at various intermediate levels was key.

Researchers have identified two objects for the GPT conversion model:

The proposed ROME is designed to change certain facts in the GPT model. ROME sees a single module as a key value store that encrypts a topic and encrypts the knowledge associated with that topic. Thus, this model can derive factual connections by obtaining values ​​corresponding to the key that allow the relationship of specific facts to be changed and updated in specific and general ways.

Researchers tested the ROME using their CounterFact datasheet, which contained thousands of false information and texts that allowed for quantitative assessment of specificity and generality while studying fiction as well as Zero tasks. -Shot Relation Extraction (zsRE). On the CounterFact dataset, ROME maintained both precision and generality while displaying competitive results on zsRE during the evaluation.

They have the potential to increase the transparency of these systems and reduce the power required to correct errors by describing the internal structure of large autoregressive transformative language models and creating rapid approaches for the transfer of stored knowledge.
