Kochi’s JLN stadium could have a Maradona pavilion, soon- The New Indian Express

KOCHI: If everything goes according to plan. The pavilion at Jawaharlal Nehru International (JLN) Stadium will be named after soccer legend Diego Maradona. The Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA), which owns the stadium, has implemented a proposal to honor the late Argentinean.

This pavilion is named The ‘Maradona Experience Center’ will be built with the support of Goldenball International LLC, the Argentine football club. “Initial discussions with club owners took place online. They shared design ideas. If everything goes according to plan, the Maradona Experience Center will become a reality,” said a GCDA source.

This will be the first football legends pavilion in the state. “Although the design and concept were developed by the Argentine club, But the responsibility for financing this project will be ours. We are looking for sponsors to carry out the project. And discussions have started,” the source said.

He added that using the latest technology will allow people to experience the real stadium of the legend. “In addition to these facilities, 360-degree video will be showcased at the venue. This will show Maradona’s life story.”

The move to the Experience Center is part of GCDA’s plan to convert JNI Stadium into a sports hub. “Although we have been able to see some international players going through the ISL, we haven’t received the maximum exposure from our players yet. So we are planning to bring some clubs from Argentina and Brazil to associate with Kerala, they will provide training for our young talents. The master plan to convert the stadium is almost finalized,” the source said.

The GCDA will develop a master plan with support from Aluva UC College’s Department of Physical Education. “Our goal is to transform JNI into a sports hub. The stadium infrastructure facilities will be upgraded to new standards,” said GCDA President C Chandran Pillai.
