New Delhi: Saturday marked 15 years of India’s triumph over Pakistan in the inaugural World T20 Final of 2007 at Wanderers in Johannesburg. It was India’s first world title in 24 years and a moment that remains etched in the minds of fans to this day. And who better to remember what happened on that particular night than Adani Sportsline Gujarat Giant’s Joginder Sharma – the medium-speed driver who helped India achieve a famous five-round win?

Pakistan was chasing a goal of 158, requiring 13 of their last six balls. An in-form Misbah-ul-Haq looked to take the match and the title away from India. Under the circumstances, Dhoni took a chance and turned to Joginder Sharma to roll over the final. And Joginder delivered the goods by taking out Misbah.

In a video posted to social media by Gujarat Giants, part of Adani Sportsline, on Saturday, Joginder took fans on an emotional journey and revealed what the conversation he had with captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was when he last bowled that night 15 years ago.

“The discussion leading up to the Finals wasn’t about what line and length I should bowl or what my bowling strategy should be. Mahi told me not to press. If we lose, it’s on him.

“Even when Misbah hit me with a six on the second ball, we weren’t tense. At no point have we spoken about what we need to do. Just before I played the third ball, I saw Misbah preparing to play a scoop. So I changed the length and bowled a slower one. That’s why Misbah couldn’t get it right. Sreesanth got the catch and the rest, as they say, is history,” said Joginder, who currently plays in the Legends League.
