San Jose, CA, November 07, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) – In a document presented at the TSMC North America Open Innovation Platform Forum, Alchip Technologies and Synopsys show how design skills collaborate on EDA and IP devices. High-quality built-in recording settings and high-performance artificial intelligence enable on-chip data center (SoC) systems.
The paper, presented at the TSMC OIP Forum in North America, Europe and China, explains how the two companies have developed new, high-performance SoCs to meet specifications under highly competitive 400-watt dynamic power conditions. The device also achieved the first silicon success on TSMC’s 7nm process technology.
This achievement is significant because today’s cloud-based data centers require a lot of energy to process the multi-terabyte data that powers today’s modern society. That power generates millions of BTUs of heat, a physical challenge for computer systems to address as it introduces complex new challenges of IR drop, EM signoff, thermal considerations, and packaging design.
The data challenge itself is another big question. Most state-of-the-art SoC designs require higher computer densities and faster interfaces while operating more efficiently in extreme heat conditions. In addition, the server CPU is controlling the increase in data set size, forcing more data to move to and from the embedded SRAM.
But using leading Synopsys and IP devices, Alchip engineers have surpassed their design goals with SoCs capable of delivering more than 2.5 gigahertz (GHz) of processing power on 480mm2 devices while operating on less dynamic power. More than 400 watts.
