India had a mixed start to the opening match of the three T20I series against Australia at Mohali, with skipper Rohit Sharma and No. 3 batsman Virat Kohli both falling to low scores.
Both Rohit and Kohli entered this game after solid performances in their previous Asian Cup appearances; the Indian skipper hit a lively 72/41 against Sri Lanka, while Kohli celebrated his first century in almost three years with an unbeaten 122 against Afghanistan.
Rohit was the first to leave at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium on Tuesday and was dismissed from bowling by seaman Josh Hazlewood with Nathan Ellis making a good catch near the deep square leg region with the India skipper in third Over the inning left.
Ellis was also involved in the second firing. Kohli, who had an excellent grade at the Asian Cup when he finished the tournament’s second-highest run scorer, fed Cameron Green down the middle with an easy catch while attempting to pound the ball to the ground. The former Indian captain was back in the hut for a disappointing seven-ball two.
Luckily for the Men in Blue, KL Rahul found valuable support from No. 4 batsman Suryakumar Yadav as the pair sewed a fifty-something partnership that got the hosts back on their feet. Halfway through their innings, India found themselves in a relatively safe position of 86/2.
