Garmin Forerunner 945 LTE watch owners will be happy to hear that a firmware update has finally rolled out with the new recovery features. The software is currently in the beta phase.
We’re saying finally because this is the only remaining Garmin watch that’s expected to get the new functionality. The update was rolled out to other devices like the Fenix 7, Epix 2, and Instinct 2 almost a month ago. The Fenix 6 also received a few of the features a few weeks ago.

As a reminder, this is a functionality that debuted with the launch of the Garmin Forerunner 955 and 255 watches. It comes with a bunch of very useful upgrades, many of which have to do with quantifying your recovery.
One of these is the training readiness metric, a scale from zero to 100 that assesses how ready you are to train in real time. This is complemented by HRV Status, Morning Report, Training Status 2.0 and Daily Suggested Workouts 2.0. Support for native running power is also worth mentioning.
Garmin Forerunner 945 LTE, Release Candidate 7.07
Software version 7.07 comes with a new sensor hub update. This is still not a public release, so you must be registered for the beta to use the features. We have published detailed instructions on how to enroll your device in the program. Once you’re in, the update will be pushed through Garmin Connect.
Since this is a release candidate, it shouldn’t take long to release. Probably a matter of a few weeks.
Here are some highlights from the changelog. You can read it in full at this link.

This means that there are now very few differences between the 945 LTE and 955 watches. So if you need something smaller on your wrist, the 945 LTE offers a viable alternative.
It comes in a 44.4mm body instead of a 46.5mm body and comes with unbound security features. The downsides are that the display is a bit smaller – 1.2 inches versus 1.3 inches. The other major downsides are that you’re missing out on the Forerunner 955’s multi-frequency satellite capability, you get less storage on the watch, and fewer mapping capabilities.
Other Garmin watches also receive software updates
This isn’t the only Garmin watch with an active software update. But the upgrades on these other devices aren’t nearly as big.
Alpha version 9.35 for Fenix 7, Epix 2, Enduro 2 and Quatix 7 fixes an issue resulting in increased battery drain when using large Strava segments. There are also improvements to race time predictions and fixes inaccuracies in the reported primary benefit for Training Effect.
The Forerunner 255 and 955 will receive public beta version 12.25. This was introduced a few days ago. The changelog only includes the Training Effect fix mentioned above.
Not to be left behind, the Fenix 6, Enduro, Tactix Delta, Quatix 6 and MARQ watches have been updated to beta version 23.02. Again, not nearly as exciting an upgrade. It only fixes inaccuracies in race time predictions.
