The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in the 2023 elections in Enugu state, Mr Frank Nweke Jnr, on Saturday, said his organization will champion the lives of Persons with Disabilities if elected .
He said this in Igbo-Eze South LGA during a town-hall meeting in Ibagwa, the county headquarters.
Nweke’s oath was followed by Comrade’s plea
Nnadi Christian Ikechukwu, the chairman of the Association of PLWD in Igbo-Eze South LGA.
Ikechukwu told Nweke, “We are thankful that only you, Frank Nweke, knew us. You invited us to unveil your show. Another party I don’t want to mention is the lack of tickets. none of us but in APGA today, after you came in, we have disabled people who are ward chairmen and candidates for the House of Assembly. What we are asking for is good exposure and celebration.
Nweke assured the public that his administration has a solid plan to ease the difficulties faced by people living with disabilities.
In his words, “The first thing in our plan is to develop a data-driven approach that identifies the most vulnerable in our country and includes everyone in in our plans for education, health, human rights, environment and social services.
“I give my word that you will have representation in our government. The APGA motto of ‘Onye Aghana Nwanne Ya’ will guide all our actions, leaving no one behind. You have already seen it happen.
“We will ensure that our city plans, infrastructure, laws, and institutions are developed to foster access, inclusion, protection of rights and implementation of the Disability Act. We will begin to make sure that public buildings are equipped with barriers to facilitate movement.
Nweke donated 10 wheelchairs and 10 crutches to the group which he said should be distributed to its vulnerable members, in addition to a pair of bandaged legs for one of the people there.
