Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has found support from England racquet Alex Hales amid the run-out controversy that took place at Lord’s ODI. In the third game between India and England, Deepti edged out Charlie Dean at the end of the non-strikers to help the visitors win by 16 runs.

Deepti ran out the England batter in her bowling stride when Dean, who had scored 40 points, went too far behind. Dean’s dismissal ended England’s innings as India completed a 3-0 win in the series. While the manner of the sacking was being legalized by the ICC, scores of English cricketers took to Twitter to speak out against the incident.

England’s wicketkeeper-batter wrote that the dismissal was unacceptable. “Surely there’s nobody who’s played the game and thinks that’s acceptable? Just no cricket…” he tweeted.

In response to Billings, England opener Alex Hales spoke out in favor of Deepti, writing: “It shouldn’t be difficult for the non-striker to stay in his crease until the ball has left his hand…”

While Billings sarcastically responded to Hales’ tweet, elder pacesetter and legendary James Anderson shared that Deepti “had no intention of bowling.”

However, Deepti received a lot of support from the Indian Cricket Brotherhood. R Ashwin and Aakash Chopra tweeted in their support, while skipper Harmanpreet Kaur dismissed the suggestion that there was something wrong with the sacking.

“It’s part of the game. I don’t think we’ve done anything new, you can always take those risks. It shows that you are aware of what the batters are doing. I will support my player because I don’t think she has done anything that is not in the ICC rules. Everything is part of the game. At the end of the day, a win is a win and you have to enjoy that,” said Harmanpreet after the game.
