Although the two projects differed drastically in their treatment of the profession, both focused on complicated characters doing what they thought best, either for themselves or the victims of a widespread conspiracy. And now McCarthy gets another chance to conquer the world of daily newspapers with new drama series. Alaska Daily.
The ABC show, starring Hilary Swank as a reporter with a questionable past trying to make a fresh start, will be released before you know it and McCarthy will once again continue his story of covering issues within the newspaper industry. Alaska Daily premieres October 6 on ABC
When the ABC 2022 fall schedule was released earlier in the year, there were a ton of great returning shows, as well as some newcomers to the network. One of those new shows was Alaska Daily (The working title was Alaska), which premieres Thursday, October 6 at 10:00 p.m., concluding the night’s scripted program (train station 19 and Grey’s anatomy to be in front of something).
those who don’t have access to cable, internet TV services, or over-the-air antennas are out of luck, as anyone with a Hulu subscription can watch Alaska Daily on the streaming service the day after it premiered on ABC.

The series revolves around an investigative journalist who starts a new life in Anchorage, Alaska
When Alaska Daily Airing in October (and streaming the next day), it will be about Hilary Swank’s Eileen Fitzgerald as the investigative journalist falls from grace and leaves her life in New York City behind to start a new life for a daily newspaper in Anchorage. There, during an ongoing investigation into the death, which may very well be a homicide, of an Alaskan Native, Eileen will find a way to save both her professional and personal life.
Speaking to TV Guide (via TV Insider) before the Alaska Daily Premiere, show creator Tom McCarthy announced that he was inspired by a series of investigative reports on Alaska Natives in the Anchorage Daily that ran from 2019-2020.
The Alaska Daily Pilot was written and directed by series creator Tom McCarthy
Besides creating Alaska Daily and as an executive producer on the series, Tom McCarthy also wrote and directed the pilot, ABC announced. Throughout his career, McCarthy has won an Oscar for his screenplay headlight and was nominated for writing the screenplay for the 2009 Pixar film Highwhich means we have him to thank for this heartbreaking opening segment.
This won’t be the first time McCarthy has written or directed on the small screen, either, as the acclaimed filmmaker has worked on shows like 13 reasons why and The loudest voice in the past. McCarthy also directed the original game of Thrones Pilot that was frozen and reshot after show creators Dan Weiss and David Benioff weren’t happy with the results.
There’s no word on whether or not McCarthy wrote or directed additional episodes of Alaska Daily or who will also be in the director’s chair during the first season of the show.
Peter Elkoff is the Alaska Daily Showrunner
Drawn in for safekeeping Alaska Daily ABC stars Peter Elkoff, who was announced earlier this year as one of the executive producers and showrunners. Elkoff, who most recently served as co-showrunner and executive producer on Fox’s medical drama, the inhabitantHe brings years of experience working on TV sets as well as some work in the film world.
Over the course of his career, Elkoff has worked on a variety of shows involving everything from Sons of Anarchy to gossip girl (the original series) and Ugly Betty to Heroes Born Again, and so much more. When Alaska Daily lands on Hulu the day after its ABC debut, it will be the second Elkoff-produced show to land on the platform, the first being the Hugh Laurie-directed drama. chancewhich ran there for two seasons from 2016.

In August 2022, ABC released the Alaska Daily Teaser trailer that offers a glimpse into the show’s central mystery without giving away too much about the story that will unfold after its debut. Exactly 30 seconds later, the trailer shows Hilary Swank’s Eileen Fitzgerald learning more about the mysterious series of disappearances when she becomes a contributor to the show’s daily newspaper.
After watching the video, it’s easy to pick up on some of the show’s themes, especially when Jeff Perry’s Stanley Cornik begins delivering a speech on the merits of journalism and the responsibilities of professionals. It plays out almost like a combination of McCarthy’s experiences The cable and headlight.
